Lit of the Month

Every month we'll spotlight a work from a woman of color.

Asha Bandele

Daughter is a riveting tale of a mother, Miriam, and her daughter, Aya, and how they disconnect and ultimately reconnect after Aya is shot by a white male police officer. Set in the recent past, this story is one that as a community Black people know all too well. Beautifully written, insightful, and honest, Daughter reminds us Black women of where we come from and how to love our mothers, and our daughters, on a level close to infinite.
